Man Who Assassinated Libyan Army Officer Arrested

On Wednesday, local police announced the arrest of a person involved in the assassination of Brigadier General Masoud Al-Dhawi, a former field commander in the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The accused confessed to participating in the assassination, alongside six others the using automatic rifles, according to the Criminal Investigation Agency in the Libyan city of Al-Marj.

He added that the assassination was ordered by Mohsen Al-Kani, one of the leaders of the Kaniat militia that was active in the city of Tarhuna.

He also reported his participation in the killing of seven people at the Central Support headquarters in Tarhuna, and kidnappings and ransom demands in the Warshafana region.

Brigadier General Masoud Al-Dhawi was the commander of the 26th Infantry brigade. He was assassinated along with two other officers, Lt. Colonel Anwar Ali Mansour Yahya, and Lt. Colonel Ahmed Hamad Al-Rayani in May 2019.
