Haftar Accuses GNA of Treason, Urges Citizens to Revolt

In a televised speech to the nation on Thursday, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar announced that the Libyan National Army (LNA) would continue its fight to free Tripoli from armed groups and extremists.

Haftar claimed that the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) was rife with corruption and illegal practices, adding that its Presidential Council had “welcomed the Turkish invasion of our country.”

The LNA commander accused the Presidential Council of having no legitimacy and held it responsible for the violent revenge attacks committed against residents of Sabratha and Surman. He added that the GNA had recruited thousands of foreign fighters, betraying Libya and the Libyan people.

“I call on the Libyan people to take down the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) and grant any institution they see fit to rule the country,” he added.
