Russian Foreign Ministry Claims Both Libyan Parties Failing to Abide by Truce

Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, claimed that recent developments in Libya were of great international concern. She noted the intensification of fighting, with both sides repeatedly failing to abide by the truce that had been called for in January.

The spokesperson said that the existing situation in Libya poses an enormous threat to the country, especially in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. She highlighted the difficulty in responding to the threat posed by the virus due to the continuous military clashes.

Zakharova stressed the need for the international community to contribute to a political solution to the conflict and said that the absence of a UN Special Envoy prevented the coordination of such international endeavors.
