The Libyan Parliament-backed government, met with Italian officials to discuss bilateral investment projects. As well as a number of important bilateral projects, according to the government’s media office.
This came during a meeting between Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Al-Qatrani and Minister of Water Resources, Mohamed Doma with a delegation from the Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was held at the Cabinet Office in Benghazi.
The two sides discussed joint investment projects, and reviewed developments in the road project linking Imsaed and Ras Ajdir. As well as the project to establish a free trade zone in the Bamba Bay, and linking this with the free trade zone in Kufra via railway.
During the meeting, plans and studies for the Bamba Bay Free Zone project were presented. This is a major investment project in Libya, due to the importance of the region’s geographical location.
Al-Qatrani also stressed the importance of completing the stalled housing projects, as soon as possible.
On 10 February, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh announced the unanimous appointment of Bashagha as the new Prime Minister. But Dbaiba warned that the appointment of a new interim government could lead to war and chaos in the country. He renewed his pledge to only hand power over to an elected government.
Libya has been mired in a political crisis since the fall of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011. Observers fear that Libya will return to having two opposing governments, threatening the nation’s vital oil sector.
The new Libyan government seeks the confidence of the international community and the United Nations.
