Member of the Libyan Parliament, Ali Al-Tekbali stated that lawmakers are set to approve the draft general budget, submitted by the new government led by Prime Minister-designate, Fathi Bashagha.

In statements to Sputnik news agency, Al-Tekbali expected “some MP’s to object to the decision.”

Notably, spokesman of the Libyan Parliament, Abdullah Blaiheg stated that the draft law on the state’s general budget for 2022, was discussed during Monday’s session.

Blaiheg said that after the House discussed the draft law, it was referred to its Budget, Planning, and Finance Committee in accordance with Law No. 04 of 2014.

The session was suspended until Tuesday, until the Parliament will discuss the findings of the constitutional process committee taking part in the Cairo meetings, and any new work.

On Saturday, Minister of Planning and Finance Osama Hammad, confirmed that the proposed draft budget, at 94 billion and 830 million Libyan dinars (about US$21 billion), “is not large, given that the first chapter of salaries, amounts to 41 billion.”

Hammad added that the draft budget adopted a new unified salary law. This, he hoped, would be adopted by the Parliament in parallel with the general budget.

MP Ziad Daghim, claimed that lawmakers are considering a mass resignation.

Daghim questioned the possibility of adopting the new general budget law, given that it needs the approval of 120 members. He indicated that the Parliament “feels frustrated and embarrassed for the people, because Libya is in a major crisis.”
