On Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin of Russia held a telephone conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of France to discuss latest developments in Libya. The two stressed the need to reach a political solution in the country and bring an end to the escalating conflict.

They also discussed the situation in Syria and Ukraine, calling on all parties to the conflict to engage in peaceful dialogue in order to face the threat posed by COVID-19.

According to a statement published by the Kremlin , Putin and Macron stressed the historical significance of the friendly relations between Russia and France during World War II, saying it “allowed them to defeat a common enemy”.

Discussing efforts to stem spread of COVID-19, the two confirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation and agreed to convene the UN Security Council permanent members by videoconference with the fight against COVID-19 as the main item on the agenda.
