Ageela Saleh Asks UN To Withdraw Recognition From GNA

The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, called on the United Nations to withdraw its recognition of the Government of National Accord (GNA) and to accredit the only legal entity in the country, the HoR.

In a letter to the UN Secretary-General, Saleh stated that the continuous illegal flow of arms from Turkey to the GNA via the ports of Tripoli and Misrata was a blatant violation of the UN arms embargo on Libya.

Saleh claimed that the MoU signed between the GNA and Turkey last November should be considered a breach of the UN sponsored Libyan Political Agreement.

He said Turkey aimed to violate Libyan sovereignty by taking control of Libyan land, airspace, ports, and territorial waters.

The HoR Speaker implored the UN not to recognise the “suspicious” MOU, adding that the new demarcation of the maritime borders between Libya and Turkey was invalid.

He stressed that the GNA was illigitimate due to its failure to respect Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and independence by accepting foreign control over its borders and internal affairs.
