On Monday, U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland met virtually with representatives of the Amazigh Supreme Council. The Council shared their ongoing efforts to promote equal rights for the Amazigh minority in Libya.

The Ambassador expressed support for the activities undertaken by the Council to promote civic participation, advocate for political and social rights, and improve educational outcomes in Libya.

This includes initiatives undertaken in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) since 2017.

The Ambassador reiterated the United States’ support for UN-led efforts to foster an inclusive political dialogue among the Libyan people.

He emphasized that such efforts can only be successful and legitimate with the meaningful participation of Libya’s indigenous and ethnic groups, including the Amazigh, Tebu, and Tuareg.
