Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal called on the Arab League (AL) to adopt a clear stance towards Libya’a Government of National Accord (GNA).

This is comes against the backdrop of recent kidnappings of a number of Egyptian nationals by GNA forces in the city of Tarhuna.

The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) received clarification from the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, regarding recent statements on Libya.

Zaki claimed that his remarks regarding Turkish troops stationed in Libya were taken out of context.

He stressed that the Arab League rejected the presence of Turkish troops throughout the Arab world, including in Libya, Abdel-Aal said.

The Assistant Secretary General pointed out that many statements were issued by the AL denouncing the use of militias and the presence of extremists in Libya.

“We are not in hostilities with anyone, but rather we wish to protect our borders and our national security”, Abdel-Aal said, noting that Libya represents a national security concern for Egypt.

He stated that any international agreements according to the Libyan constitution must be first approved by the Parliament.
