The French medical team has concluded its humanitarian mission in Derna, providing medical services to approximately 1,652 individuals.

The services were offered through a field hospital over the past period. In appreciation of their efforts, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs honoured the team.

The commendation involved bestowing the Libyan government’s shield, a certificate of appreciation, and honours to all delegation members. Additionally, a total of 87 medals were awarded to the entire team, following the instructions of Prime Minister, Osama Hamad.

At Al-Abraq military airport, the committee tasked with the honours expressed gratitude on behalf of the Libyan government, thanking the French medical team for all their contributions.

Notably, the High Preparatory Committee of the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Derna convened on Saturday.

The session unfolded in the heart of Derna, and was graced by a diverse array of stakeholders, including numerous members from the High Preparatory Committee, the Scientific Engineering Committee, the Deputy Minister of Local Governance, mayors from the impacted municipalities, and a cadre of respected elders and dignitaries from Derna.

During the session, numerous ideas, propositions, and conceptualizations regarding the reconstruction of Derna and similarly impacted locales were explored. A uniform, unequivocal objective underscored all deliberations: ensuring that the reconstruction adheres to the zenith of safety and security protocols, for all afflicted areas.

In the aftermath of the devastating floods that decimated entire neighbourhoods in eastern Libya, regional authorities have announced plans for an international conference focused on reconstruction.

Last week, the Libyan Parliament-designated Prime Minister, Osama Hammad provided a comprehensive brief on the government’s preparedness and its strategy for reconstructing the city of Derna, and areas adversely affected by the deadly storm Daniel.

This came during a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Ageela Saleh. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Benghazi-based Reconstruction and Stabilization Committee.
