Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Aoun chaired the 187th meeting of the oil ministers of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

During the virtual meeting, Libya’s OPEC representative, Mustafa Abdullah bin Issa, was appointed as the President of the Council of Governors for the year 2024.

The participants discussed challenges facing oil-producing countries, amid the world’s transition to alternative energy sources.

The meeting addressed the future global oil demand, as well as the International Energy Agency’s report and its perspective on the “net-zero emissions by 2050” goal.

Aoun commended the organization’s team for their “continuous and highly professional efforts in monitoring the global oil market and providing information to members.” He acknowledged their role in enhancing the organization’s performance.
