Al-Hwaij Discusses Libya With Saudi Foreign Minister

On Monday, the Foreign Minister of Libya’s Interim Government, Abdul-Hadi Al-Hwaij, discussed the latest developments of the Libyan conflict with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud. The two also discussed efforts made to reach a political settlement to the conflict in light of the Cairo Declaration, which has garnered regional and international support.

A statement by the media office of the Libyan Foreign Ministry said that the Saudi Foreign Minister stressed his keenness for the safety, security, stability, and unity of Libya. It said Saudi Arabia supports all peaceful efforts to solve the crisis in accordance with the Cairo Declaration and the outcomes of the Berlin Conference.

The Cairo Declaration is an initiative launched by the Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi that seeks to implement a ceasefire, new presidential elections, disarmament of militias, and to bring an end to foreign interference in Libya.

Farhan also confirmed the Kingdoms’s determination that the solution to the Libyan conflict be Libyan-led and that the political settlement reached must be not be influenced by foreign interests and agendas.

The two Ministers stressed the need for continued communication and coordination in order to support bilateral relations between the two countries.
