On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron denounced Turkey’s interference in Libya and its military support to the Government of the National Accord (GNA). He claimed Turkey was playing “a dangerous game”.

In a press conference with Tunisian President Kais Saied, Macron said that it was in the interest of everyone to stop the war in Libya.

He stressed the need to end foreign interference in the North African country, adding, “I have already had the opportunity to say very clearly to President Erdogan that Turkey is playing a dangerous game in Libya and contravenes all of its commitments made at the Berlin conference”.

President Macron pointed out that establishing security in the Mediterranean region was key for stability, saying that his government will not tolerate Turkey’s actions in Libya. The French President also noted that Egypt’s concerns over Libya were legitimate.

Macron and US President Donald Trump discussed key bilateral and regional issues, White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said on Monday.

“The two leaders agreed on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Libya and for the rapid resumption of negotiations by the Libyan parties”, Deere wrote on Twitter.

Notably, the participants in the Berlin Conference agreed to a ceasefire and to engage in negotiations through the 5+5 Military Committee talks.

The situation in Libya has recently witnessed escalating hostilities between the Libyan National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA).
