Libya & Saudi Arabia Discuss Enhancing Energy Collaboration

The Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Aoun held discussions with the Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Libya, Ahmed Al-Shahri on Monday.

Aoun affirmed the ongoing collaboration between the two nations in the fields of oil and energy. The meeting underscored Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enhance stability in Libya.

The focus of the discussion centered on the development of Libya’s shale oil and gas sector, reviewing the steps taken by Saudi Arabia in exploratory drilling in this regard.

Additionally, there was a discourse on the potential involvement of Saudi investors in reviving Libyan factories, particularly those engaged in pipe manufacturing, drilling fluids, and the production of oil-related spare parts.

Various officials attended the meeting, including the Director-General of Technical Affairs, the Director-General of Planning, the Director of the International Cooperation Office, and the Minister’s Office Director.

The importance of reciprocal visits between the two nations was emphasized, aiming to leverage expertise and manufacturing technologies available in the Kingdom.

Notably, the Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mousa Al-Koni met with Al-Shehri, in a significant diplomatic move aimed at bolstering the longstanding ties between the two nations.

This meeting underscores a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation, and addressing regional challenges. The discussions between were centered on the deep historical relations that have long united Libya and Saudi Arabia.

Al-Koni emphasised the key role that Saudi Arabia plays in the Arab world, particularly in its efforts to foster peace in nations struggling with instability. He expressed confidence in the Kingdom’s continued engagement in resolving the political deadlock that has been a challenge for Libya, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts with other countries interested in Libyan affairs.

Al-Shehri reiterated Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for the Presidential Council’s initiatives aimed at achieving stability. He confirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Libya in its journey towards conducting its electoral process, reflecting the aspirations of the Libyan people for democratic governance.
