Libya’s Minister of Industry and Minerals in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Ahmed Abu Hissa, met with the Russian Ambassador to Libya, Aydar Aganin, to discuss enhancing cooperation in various industrial and mining fields.

Abu Hissa highlighted Libya’s strategic significance and its diverse mineral resources, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation.

The Russian Ambassador expressed Russia’s desire to reactivate joint committees and readiness to bolster cooperation programmes between corresponding institutions in both countries, particularly in industrial and geological research, and technical support in industrial technology sectors.

Abu Hissa invited Russian businessmen and industrialists to visit Libya, proposing the establishment of a Libyan-Russian Industrial Forum. He also suggested arranging the Ambassador’s visit to ministry-affiliated institutions to explore opportunities and discuss cooperation areas.

Previously, Libya’s Oil and Gas Minister and Head of the Libyan-Russian Joint Committee, Mohamed Aoun, urged Russian companies to submit proposals for oil and gas exploration in Libya.

Aoun announced that the National Oil Corporation (NOC) is preparing for a public tender open to global companies, including Russian firms, to explore oil and gas in unexplored Libyan lands, both onshore and offshore.

He called on Russian companies to present bids for land parcels and initiate exploration, expressing hope for discoveries and the resumption of operations in Libyan territories.

Aoun disclosed plans for an upcoming meeting with the Russian Energy Minister, Nikolai Shulginov, in Algeria, where he intends to invite Russian companies specializing in energy and other fields, given Russia’s high-tech expertise in the oil sector.
