Libya is set to implement an electronic visa system for foreign labour, with the Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, announcing the completion of all necessary legal and technical procedures.

In a meeting involving various departments including the General Intelligence Service, Passports and Nationality Authority, and the Telecommunications Holding Company, the ministry emphasized the alignment of this step with governmental directives to streamline visa issuance and organisation.

Last week, the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) unveiled plans for foreign nationals to apply for Libyan visas electronically, beginning May 1st. This initiative, tailored for foreign workers, aims to simplify the visa acquisition process, supported by collaborative efforts between the Holding Company for Communications, Passport and Nationality Affairs Authority, and the General Information Authority.

State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa, praised this initiative as a pioneering project expected to modernize entry processes for foreign labour. Minister Al-Abed highlighted the system’s potential to eliminate bureaucratic delays and corruption, thereby improving the regulation of foreign labour inflow.

This digital transformation aligns with Libya’s broader strategy to enhance administrative efficiency and attract international talent, reflecting global trends favoring electronic governance and streamlined procedures.
