On the sidelines of the first African Lifelong Learning Institute forum in Rabat, Libya’s Minister of Education and Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, Moussa Al-Maqrif, met with Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa.
The ministers discussed future cooperation between the two countries in the education sector, sharing ideas, perspectives, and experiences on various challenges facing the sector.
They explored the potential for addressing these challenges within a Maghreb and African framework. The meeting also focused on activating the cooperation agreement signed earlier in 2023 by implementing some of its clauses and forming joint technical teams and committees.
Al-Maqrif invited the African Institute and its executive and legislative structures to visit Libya to meet with officials, specialists, and experts across different sectors. He expressed Libya’s keen interest in hosting the first representation of the institute outside Morocco to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the institute and member states.
At the end of the meeting, Al-Maqrif extended an official invitation to his Moroccan counterpart to visit Libya in the near future to further activate the signed agreement and foster bilateral relations.
The visit aims to facilitate meetings with Libyan officials and educational leaders from both countries, marking a new beginning in their collaboration.
Notably, Al-Maqrif, participated in the African Lifelong Learning Institute’s inaugural forum hosted by Rabat, Morocco. The event was organised at the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart, the Minister of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports.
Accompanying Minister Al-Maqrif were Libya’s representative to the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Mohamed Amari Zayed, and his advisor, Abdel Salam Al-Saghir.
Delegations from 39 African countries, including ministers, heads, and directors-general of national committees, as well as representatives of learning cities in Africa and related governmental sectors, participated in the event. Several regional and international organizations working in education, culture, and science were also in attendance.
