Fathi Al-Mariami, the media adviser to the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), stated that Italy strongly supported efforts to reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis. It is seeking to calm the situation and end the conflict in the country.

HoR Speaker Ageela Saleh is preparing to visit Rome at the invitation of the Italian government to discuss a political solution and the resumption of oil exportation.

Al-Mariami said that Italy is concerned with events in Libya and is directly affected by the ongoing developments. He pointed out that Saleh will discuss his initiative with the Italian government, the ‘Cairo Declaration’, and Turkey’s military intervention.

The ‘Cairo Declaration’ is an initiative launched by Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi that seeks to resolve the Libyan crisis based on the outcomes of the Berlin Conference.

Turkey backs the Government of National Accord (GNA) and has been sending arms and fighters to help the Tripoli-based government in its war against the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
