Libya’s Interior Minister of the Parliament-designate government, Essam Abu Zariba, held a meeting to discuss security in the southwest region and to register foreign nationals in the country.

The meeting took place in Benghazi at the minister’s office. Present at the meeting were Major General Salah Huwaidi, head of the Criminal Investigation Department, and Major General Nuri Al-Saadi, head of the Anti-Illegal Illegal Immigration Agency.

The meeting focused on the current security situation in the southwest. Participants discussed the challenges facing security agencies and local police departments in the area. Strategies to address these challenges were a key part of the discussions.

One significant topic was the operational mechanisms of the Security Information Census Committee. This committee is part of the Criminal Investigation Department. It has started its work in the southeast region and plans to expand its operations to the southwest. The committee’s goal is to register all foreign nationals currently in Libya and monitor their security status.

The meeting also looked at the cooperation between different components of the Ministry of Interior. The aim is to enhance security and eliminate negative phenomena in the southwest region. Collaboration among various agencies is seen as crucial for effective security enforcement.

Major General Huwaidi highlighted the importance of accurate data collection. He emphasised that the census would help in managing and monitoring the foreign population in Libya. This is particularly relevant given the security implications associated with illegal immigration.

Major General Al-Saadi stressed the need for a coordinated approach to tackle illegal immigration. He pointed out that effective management requires the involvement of all relevant security and governmental bodies.

Minister Abu Zariba concluded the meeting by underscoring the ministry’s commitment to maintaining security and order. He reiterated the importance of the initiatives discussed and called for their swift implementation.
