On Saturday, the Ministry of Education of the Libyan Interim Government has decided to re-open public and private universities, academies and higher institutes starting August 9, taking into account the preventive measures set by each educational institution.

In a statement, the ministry also decided to commence final-year exams for primary, preparatory and secondary students in the country’s public and private schools on August 8.

This came during a meeting between the Minister of Education Fawzi Boumriz and the head of the Supreme Committee to Combat Coronavirus, Lieutenant General Abdel Razek Al-Nadhuri, in the presence of the health and interior ministers.

They also discussed the measures required for the implementation of the education ministry’s plan, while preserving the health of students, teachers and all workers in the educational sector.

On his part, the Minister of Education called on the head of the coronavirus committee to provide them all necessary equipment and preventive tools required for resuming the educational activities in the coming period.

As part of precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Libya’s Education Minister suspended “school activities” from March 15.
