US Regrets Foreign Interference In Libya’s Economy

On Sunday, the US Embassy in Libya said it regretted all foreign-backed efforts harming the country’s economy and financial sectors. This only served to impede progress and heighten the risk of confrontation.

In a statement, the Embassy said that those who undermine Libya’s economy and support military escalation will face isolation and risk sanctions.

It also added that incursions by Russian Wagner forces against National Oil Corporation (NOC) facilities and mixed messages by a number of states have hurt the Libyan people.

The illegal obstruction of the long-overdue audit of the banking sector further undermines the desire of all Libyans for economic transparency. The Embassy pointed out that these disappointing actions will not deter it from its commitment to work with all Libyan institutions, such as the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the House of Representatives (HOR).

This is to protect Libya’s sovereignty, achieve a lasting ceasefire, and support a Libyan consensus on the transparent management of oil and gas revenues.

It confirmed that the door remains open for all who lay down weapons, reject foreign manipulation, and come together in peaceful dialogue.

The statement read “we are confident that the Libyan people see clearly who is prepared to help Libya move forward, and who instead has chosen irrelevance”.
