The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has dismissed Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević (Micho), following the national team’s disappointing start in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

LLibya’s recent draw against Rwanda in Tripoli and their earlier loss to Benin triggered the decision to part ways with Michu after just two rounds of qualifying.

Despite having a crucial African qualifier against Nigeria scheduled for October, with the first leg in Nigeria and the return leg in Libya, Michu’s tenure came to an early end. His dismissal follows Libya’s bottom placement in Group D with just one point, making the path to qualification for the 2024 AFCON tournament in Morocco extremely difficult.

Micho, who took over as head coach of the Libyan national team in October last year, had managed to lead the team to nine victories. However, his failure to build a strong squad, combined with questionable selection choices during the AFCON qualifiers, led to poor results, frustrating Libyan fans.

Sources from Al-Wasat news confirm that there is a strong possibility the Libyan Football Federation will appoint a local coach to lead the national team for the remainder of the AFCON qualification campaign.
