The Libyan Minister of Health, Dr. Saad Akoub, on Saturday reported two suspected cases of COVID-19 in the country. He added that the individuals who are suspected to have contracted the virus are two Libyan citizens.

One of the individuals recently travelled to Libya from Iran, one of the countries that has been hit hardest by the Coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the Minister explained that the two cases are being examined at a hospital in the Al-Kuwaifia district of Benghazi.

Despite the fact that no cases of COVID-19 have officially been detected in Libya, the government has taken strict preemptive measures to prevent an outbreak in the country.

Schools in and around Benghazi will close for two weeks.

The head of Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control said on Thursday that the country lacked adequate isolation facilities in the event of an outbreak.
