Libya has been selected to host the 20th Ministerial Meeting of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), under the United Nations Environment Programme.

The Libyan Ministry of Environment announced on Thursday that the country will chair the council, comprising 50 African nations, for a two-year term from summer 2025 to 2026.

This marks the second time Libya hosts AMCEN, following its previous hosting of the event in 2004.

The ministry affirmed its full commitment to organising the meeting, pledging to mobilise all resources to ensure its success.

The event aims to strengthen regional cooperation and support sustainable development across Africa, a continent rich in natural resources.
