On Saturday, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), and Prime Minister Osama Hammad of the Parliament-designated government inaugurated a project to complete 20,000 housing units, known as the “Chinese buildings,” in Benghazi.

This large-scale initiative reflects Libya’s ongoing efforts to rebuild and provide essential housing for its citizens.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Belgassim Khalifa Haftar, Director-General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, as well as representatives from 27 companies, members of the House of Representatives, and top military and security leaders.

Prime Minister Hammad expressed deep gratitude to those contributing to the reconstruction efforts and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Libyan Armed Forces, who played a critical role in defeating terrorism in Benghazi.

He noted that the area around the Chinese buildings had witnessed intense battles, and today, its transformation into housing represents a symbol of resilience and progress.

Hammad highlighted that Libya is experiencing an unprecedented phase of development, focusing on infrastructure, housing, and economic recovery. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing suitable housing for young people in all Libyan cities, emphasizing that these projects are being executed with efficiency and under well-structured plans.

He dismissed doubts about the government’s reconstruction efforts, stating that the results on the ground speak for themselves. Hammad credited the leadership of the LNA, the House of Representatives, and the Reconstruction Fund for their roles in driving these projects forward.

The 20,000 housing units symbolize Libya’s determination to overcome past challenges and invest in a better future. Benghazi, once a battlefield, is now a focal point of rebuilding efforts, reflecting a nation’s hope and ambition to provide a stable and dignified life for its people.
