Les Échos: Egypt is Ready to Intervene Militarily to Confront Turkey in Libya

“Egypt has entered the line of the crisis in Libya, as it took a step that brought it closer to military intervention in that conflict, amid Turkish threats near its borders,” the French newspaper Les Échos reported.

In a report, the newspaper shed light on Egypt’s warning, made at the end of last month, against any progress towards the city of Sirte by the militias of the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), pointing out that it is a step that might pose a threat to Egypt’s national security and could actually push it to intervene.

According to the report, Egypt has become more clear after the parliament voted unanimously to authorise President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to send forces outside the Egyptian border after he demanded that the soldiers be ready to fight outside the country if the GNA’s militias approached the red lines of Sirte and Jufra.
