The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya is leading a coordinated response to the Sudanese refugee crisis, working alongside local authorities, NGOs, and international partners.

Despite Libya’s authorities and communities showing strong support for Sudanese refugees fleeing conflict, UNHCR has called for additional international assistance to address critical needs, including access to food, clean water, healthcare, and education.

To sustain and expand its humanitarian efforts, UNHCR aims to raise $22 million by 2025. This funding will support approximately 449,000 refugees and host community members. Efforts are being intensified in Al Kufra, a primary entry point for Sudanese refugees, with plans to bolster healthcare facilities and improve living conditions for the most vulnerable.

The appeal comes as harsh winter conditions threaten to worsen the hardships faced by over 210 Sudanese refugees who risked their lives seeking safety. Rising costs, including a 19% increase in prices, have further strained resources and heightened the need for urgent international support.

UNHCR emphasised its commitment to addressing the challenges and providing critical aid to those in dire need in Libya.
