Al-Agouri Highlights Libya’s Role in Advancing Regional Development

On Thursday, Yousef Al-Agouri, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee in Libya’s House of Representatives, emphasized that Libya’s stability could unlock significant opportunities for the entire region.

Speaking before representatives from 41 countries attending the International Conference on Peace and Sustainable Development held in Benghazi, Al-Agouri declared, “A stable Libya will contribute to peace and security while opening new horizons for regional cooperation and development.”

The conference, organized by Libya’s parliament-appointed government led by Prime Minister Osama Hamad, highlighted the potential of a peaceful Libya as a foundation for economic and social growth in the region.

Al-Agouri pointed to ongoing progress in eastern Libya, which has seen significant reconstruction efforts after years of neglect. Infrastructure projects such as the recently inaugurated Wadi Al-Naqa Bridge, the Derna Security Directorate, and the historic Sahaba Mosque underscore the commitment to rebuilding. These projects were launched earlier this week by Prime Minister Hamad, with high-ranking officials including Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh and Belqassem Haftar, General Manager of the Fund for the Development and Reconstruction of Libya, in attendance.

Libya’s strategic position, abundant natural resources, and reconstruction initiatives make it a potential hub for regional trade, security collaboration, and investment. Al-Agouri stressed that Libya’s recovery could benefit not only its people but also neighboring countries and global stakeholders.

Despite these promising developments, Libya continues to face challenges such as political divisions and the need for post-conflict recovery. Al-Agouri’s remarks highlighted the importance of international collaboration in ensuring Libya’s journey toward stability succeeds. He emphasized that a peaceful Libya could foster greater cooperation between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, becoming a bridge for economic and social progress in the region.

The Benghazi conference served as a platform to showcase Libya’s determination to overcome its challenges and its potential to become a key player in regional development. Al-Agouri’s vision underscores the shared responsibility of the international community to support Libya’s reconstruction and ensure its stability as a catalyst for regional prosperity.
