Egypt-Greece To Sign Maritime Borders Agreement

Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, is set to arrive in Egypt on an official visit to review an agreement to demarcate the maritime borders between the two countries, according to Greek diplomatic sources.

This follows the signing of an agreement on demarcating an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) between Greece and Italy. Dendias announced that he would visit Egypt for a similar deal.

Dendias stated that “the delimitation of maritime zones is achieved in accordance with International Law, through valid agreements, not through null and void agreements, like the one signed between Turkey and the Government of National Accord (GNA).” He also added that the agreement would not be done “through the unilateral submission of coordinates”.

Egypt is seeking an end to the agreement signed between Ankara and Tripoli. Cairo and Athens agreed several months ago, to accelerate the demarcation of the maritime borders between the two countries.

The sources noted that the visit of the Greek FM to Cairo comes at a very important time, especially after the agreement between Greece and Italy.
