Libyan Presidential Candidate Vows to Reject Foreign Pressure on Migrant Resettlement

Libyan Presidential Candidate Suleiman Al-Bayoudi has warned that Libya is increasingly becoming a bargaining ground for European countries to offload deported migrants, under the guise of cooperation and border control agreements.

In a recent statement, Al-Bayoudi said that Libya is being exploited in international negotiations as a destination for migrants expelled from Europe and other regions. He described this as a “dangerous precedent” that undermines Libyan sovereignty and violates human rights.

“Instead of genuine collaboration aimed at improving the situation in Libya and the region, what we’re seeing is an effort to pressure Libya into accepting deportees—many of whom have no legal or humanitarian ties to the country,” Al-Bayoudi stated.

He stressed that such negotiations often take place behind closed doors, without the knowledge or approval of Libyan institutions or the public. “Libya must not be transformed into a dumping ground for Europe’s migration issues,” he added.

Al-Bayoudi called for a clear and unified national policy to reject any deals that aim to resettle deported migrants in Libya. He emphasized the need for transparent diplomacy, strong governance, and national consensus to tackle the crisis.

This statement comes amid growing concerns that Libya’s ongoing political division and lack of stability are being exploited by international actors to advance their own migration agendas.
