On Thursday, the Algerian army warned of the repercussions of a “proxy war” in Libya, stressing the need to accelerate efforts to find a peaceful way out of the crisis before it is too late.

In the editorial section of the new monthly issue of its magazine “The Army”, the Algerian army said that “the new situation prevailing on the ground (in Libya) is much more dangerous than some might imagine.”

“The repercussions of the proxy war that some parties are planning to implement in Libya will have disastrous effects on the countries of the region” it wrote. The magazine also pointed out that Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had summarized the situation in Libya saying: “Libya is in a situation similar to what is happening in Syria due to the multiplicity of foreign interference.”

The army warned that the situation in Libya may lead to “challenges and threats to Algerian national security,” stressing that Algeria’s position regarding the Libyan file “is based on the principles of resorting to dialogue and sitting at the negotiating table to settle the conflict.”
