The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Parliament-designate government of Libya has held a meeting in Benghazi to assess the humanitarian needs of Sudanese nationals displaced by conflict. The move comes as part of the government’s continued efforts to support vulnerable communities and coordinate humanitarian assistance.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters, was chaired by Essam Al-Asbali, Director of the Department of International Organisations. It was attended by representatives of various departments, national institutions, and humanitarian organisations working in the region, particularly in the southern city of Kufra.
The discussions focused on the growing needs of Sudanese families who have fled violence and instability in their home country and taken refuge in Libyan territory, especially in Kufra, which has become a major point of arrival for displaced people due to its proximity to the Sudanese border.
Participants highlighted the importance of establishing a unified database of displaced individuals to ensure better coordination and delivery of aid, including medical services, shelter, and other essential support. The ministry stressed the need for a collaborative approach among all humanitarian actors operating in the region to streamline efforts and avoid duplication.
The session was conducted in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdel-Hadi Al-Hwaij, who has reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding humanitarian responsibilities and responding to the plight of those affected by regional crises.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that it would continue working closely with relevant institutions and international partners to provide consistent and effective assistance to Sudanese refugees across Libyan territory.
