Libyan security forces have apprehended 70 illegal migrants of various African nationalities during a series of desert patrol operations, according to a statement by the Law Enforcement Department of the General Directorate of Security Operations.

The security sweeps, carried out by border guard patrols operating under the Joint Security Room in Mizda, targeted several key desert routes and valleys, including Wadi Souf Al-Jein, Nessma, and Marsit, as well as the unpaved tracks connecting these areas.

The department confirmed that the migrants were treated in line with recognised humanitarian standards, receiving necessary aid before being transferred to the Joint Security Room for further processing. Authorities will refer the individuals to the relevant legal bodies for appropriate action.

In a move to strengthen border control, the Law Enforcement Department also announced the establishment of new security outposts between the areas of Nessma and Sukrij to tighten surveillance and enhance operational coverage in the region.

Libya remains a key transit point for irregular migration toward Europe, with security forces regularly intercepting migrants attempting to cross its vast and porous desert borders.
