On Saturday, Head of the National Defence and Security Committee of the Libyan Parliament, Talal Al-Mihoub, welcomed the recent agreement signed between Egypt and Greece that defines their exclusive economic zones in the east Mediterranean.

In statements aired on “Libya Al-Hadath” TV satellite channel, Al-Mihoub said that the agreement is in line with international law and will hinders Erdogan’s ambitions in Tripoli, noting that the deal signed between Turkey and the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) is null and void.

“The agreement will boost efforts by Egypt and Greece to tap into huge natural gas reserves discovered in the east Mediterranean and counteract attempts by Turkey to claim a share”, he added.

On Thursday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt and Greece have signed an agreement on setting up an exclusive economic zone between the two countries.

In a joint press conference with his Greek counterpart, Shoukry said that the agreement aims to enable Egypt and Greece to maximize the benefit from the great natural resources in the exclusive economic zone of both countries.
