On Wednesday, the US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, consulted with senior Turkish officials in Ankara, about the urgent need to genuinely support Libyan voices seeking an end to the conflict. He also discussed about the return to UN-facilitated political dialogue, with full respect for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement, the Embassy added that the visit followed phone calls between President Trump and President Erdogan. This was to discuss steps to achieve a demilitarised solution for central Libya, realise a full and reciprocal withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries, enable the National Oil Corporation to resume its critical work and promote economic transparency and reforms.

Notably, the US Ambassador was in Cairo, two days ago, for similar talks. He also met with the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh. Norland has also spoken with Government of National Accord Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj, and his Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha, about ending the crisis.
