Libya has signed a new defense cooperation agreement with Turkey aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Libyan Army through advanced training, technical support, and military collaboration.

The agreement was signed by Libya’s acting Defense Minister, Brigadier General Abdulsalam Zubi, and Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler during an official visit to Ankara. The signing reflects deepening defense ties between the two countries and a shared interest in strengthening Libya’s military institutions.

Under the agreement, Libya will benefit from advanced military training programs, technical expertise, and logistical assistance provided by Turkey. The deal is part of a broader strategy to rebuild and modernize the Libyan Army and improve its operational readiness.

During the signing ceremony, Brig. Gen. Zubi described the agreement as a “strategic milestone” for Libya’s efforts to reform its military and enhance the professional skills of its armed forces. He praised the long-standing defense partnership with Turkey and expressed confidence that the cooperation would play a vital role in restoring stability and security in Libya.

For its part, Turkey reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Libya’s defense sector, pledging to provide training, advisory services, and other forms of military assistance. Turkish officials emphasized that the cooperation aims to contribute not only to Libya’s defense capabilities but also to broader regional stability.

This new agreement marks another chapter in the growing military partnership between Libya and Turkey, which has strengthened in recent years through training missions, defense contracts, and joint initiatives. Both governments view the deal as a critical step toward enhancing Libya’s defense sector and promoting long-term security cooperation.
