On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussed the conflicts in Libya and Syria in a telephone call.

The Kremlin stated that the two leaders focused mainly on the crisis in Libya, where they back opposing sides.

“It was reiterated (during the phone call) the need for the warring parties (in Libya) to take real steps towards a permanent ceasefire, and to start direct negotiations in accordance with the decisions of the Berlin Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2510,” the statement said.

The statement added that the Russian and Turkish Presidents agreed to intensify efforts to combat terrorism in Syria. This is after that a joint Turkish-Russian patrol was injured in an explosion in the Syrian region of Idlib.
