Dr. Abdel Salam Aqila, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health in the Libyan Government, conducted an emergency inspection visit to Sebha Medical Center to monitor the condition of those injured in a recent truck depot explosion.

During the visit, Dr. Aqila reviewed the medical status of the victims, assessed the hospital’s needs, and assured full support from the ministry to manage the consequences of the incident.

According to Dr. Abdelrabah Abdullah, Deputy Director for Medical Affairs at Sebha Medical Center, the facility received 15 burn victims as a result of the explosion. The injured included 4 Libyan nationals and 11 foreign nationals from Niger, Chad, and Sudan.

He added that all victims were provided with initial emergency care and were treated across departments including emergency, surgery, and orthopedics. Medical teams worked continuously through both day and night shifts under the direct supervision of the health official, who is currently touring healthcare centers in southern Libya.

Four of the victims are in critical condition and are expected to be transferred to hospitals in Benghazi or Tripoli, while others have been discharged after receiving treatment.

The incident highlights the ongoing strain on southern Libya’s healthcare infrastructure and the government’s efforts to respond swiftly to emergencies affecting both citizens and migrants.
