The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, confirmed that the EU’s Operation IRINI will continue to support and strengthen the capabilities of the Libyan Navy in the coming months.
In a post on X, Orlando explained that the support will be provided through intensive training programs designed to improve operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with international standards and maritime law.
He noted that 30 Libyan naval officers from Tripoli and Benghazi successfully completed the first training course under the framework of the mission.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to Italy and the Italian Navy Training Center in Taranto for hosting the initiative, describing it as an important milestone in the EU-Libya partnership.
Orlando added that this achievement contributes to efforts aimed at unifying Libya’s military institutions, based on shared operational standards and enhanced professional capacities.
