Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency has announced the detention of 163 irregular migrants of various nationalities during a security operation carried out in the city of Ajdabiya as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration and strengthen public security.

According to the agency, the operation was conducted by patrol units in Ajdabiya under a broader security plan aimed at addressing irregular migration and tackling activities linked to human smuggling and unlawful border crossings.

Officials said all necessary legal measures were taken against the detained migrants before they were transferred to the shelter centre operated by the Ajdabiya branch of the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency. The migrants will undergo the required legal and administrative procedures in accordance with Libyan laws and regulations.

The agency stated that the operation forms part of a wider campaign designed to reduce irregular migration flows and improve security conditions in areas frequently used as transit routes by migrants seeking to reach destinations across North Africa and Europe.

Authorities stressed that security operations will continue in coordination with relevant security institutions and law enforcement agencies. The agency said it remains committed to intensifying field operations aimed at curbing irregular migration and combating criminal activities associated with migrant smuggling networks.

Libya has long served as a major transit point for migrants and asylum seekers attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea toward Europe. The country’s security agencies have increased efforts in recent years to address irregular migration, dismantle trafficking networks, and enforce immigration regulations through coordinated operations across several regions.

The latest operation in Ajdabiya reflects ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities to strengthen border security, regulate migration movements, and address challenges linked to irregular migration while implementing legal procedures for those detained during security campaigns.
