US Reaffirms Support for Stability & Consensus in Libya

The United States has reiterated its support for efforts to promote stability and national consensus in Libya, with the US Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt commending the role of the Libyan Presidential Council in de-escalating tensions in the capital.

In a statement shared Monday on the official US Embassy account on X (formerly Twitter), Berndt praised the Council’s efforts to implement security arrangements rooted in national consensus, following a meeting with Presidential Council Head Mohamed Al-Mnifi in Tripoli.

Berndt described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments in the Libyan political file, especially in light of recent international discussions held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The US diplomat underscored Washington’s continued commitment to working with Libyan and international partners to build a stable and unified Libya. His remarks align with growing Western calls for a coordinated roadmap toward elections and reconciliation, amid ongoing talks among Libyan political factions and UN envoys.

Broader Context

The visit by Berndt comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to break Libya’s long-standing political stalemate. The Presidential Council, under Al-Mnifi’s leadership, has been engaging regional and international actors to foster dialogue and reduce conflict risks, particularly in western Libya.

The United States has remained an active stakeholder in supporting Libya’s transition through the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and direct bilateral engagement.
