On Monday, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Libyan Parliament, Yousef Al-Agouri, expressed his deep concern over the significant rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

In a statement, he said that combating the virus must be given top priority in the coming period. Al-Agouri pointed that the ceasefire announcement made by the Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh, was a great opportunity to unify and coordinate efforts. He also urged all Libyan parties to address the economic and social repercussions of the virus’ outbreak. He also stressed the need to adopt effective preventive measures, especially to allow for the resumption of education and economic activities.

Al-Agouri called on the competent authorities to shoulder their responsibilities in the face of the current pandemic. Urging all citizens to abide by all precautionary and safety measures, he highlighted that facing this pandemic is the responsibility of each and every individual.

On Monday, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 543 new cases. This brings the total number of infections to 13,966, including 12,270 active cases. In its latest statement, the NCDC also reported 5 new deaths, bringing the total death toll to 237 cases. The number of successful recoveries reached 1,459, after registering 49 new recoveries in the last 24 hours.
