The Illegal Migration Control Department in Benghazi hosted a formal Libyan–Sudanese meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation on organizing the status of Sudanese nationals in Libya and advancing the voluntary return programme.
The meeting was held under directives from the Deputy Commander-in-Chief and the Minister of Interior, and brought together the Head of the Department, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khififi, and the Consul General of the Republic of Sudan in Benghazi, Ambassador Abdulrahman Mohamed Rahma.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current situation of Sudanese migrants in Libya and agreed on launching a comprehensive census covering all Sudanese nationals present in the eastern, southeastern, central, and southern regions.
This effort aims to unify databases, verify identities, and ensure that all procedures are conducted transparently and in accordance with the law. The two parties emphasized that accurate data collection is essential for managing humanitarian needs and processing voluntary return requests in a coordinated manner.
The talks also addressed urgent humanitarian cases, including injured, ill, or detained Sudanese nationals who require special follow-up. The meeting underscored the importance of close coordination with judicial and medical authorities to ensure that all detainees receive due legal process and that vulnerable individuals are treated in line with international humanitarian standards.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Rahma carried out a field visit to assess the conditions of Sudanese women and children lacking identification documents. The visit aimed to facilitate direct communication with the consulate, accelerate documentation procedures, and ensure that these individuals receive adequate protection while their legal status is resolved.
