Libya’s Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdulhamid Dbaiba, received the Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu in Tripoli during an official visit aimed at offering condolences following the tragic death of Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad and several senior military officials in a plane crash in Turkey.
During the meeting, the Turkish military chief conveyed the condolences of Türkiye’s leadership, government, and people to Libya, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
He praised the late Al-Haddad’s role in supporting the development of Libya’s military institution and in strengthening military and security cooperation between Libya and Türkiye. The Turkish side reaffirmed its commitment to standing with Libya during this difficult period and supporting stability and institutional collaboration.
For his part, Dbaiba welcomed the visit, describing it as a sincere gesture that reflects the depth of relations between Libya and Türkiye. He noted that Al-Haddad had been among the strongest advocates of structured, institutional cooperation between the two countries, based on partnership, capacity building, and respect for Libya’s sovereignty. Dbaiba emphasized that Libya values its collaboration with Türkiye as part of broader efforts to build state institutions and enhance national security.
The Prime Minister stressed that cooperation between Libya and Türkiye will continue across multiple sectors, particularly in military training, institutional development, and security coordination. He underlined that this cooperation is conducted within the framework of bilateral agreements and serves the interests of both countries, while contributing to Libya’s stability and security.
Dbaiba also confirmed that investigations into the circumstances of the plane crash are ongoing with seriousness and transparency. He stated that Libyan authorities are closely coordinating with Turkish counterparts to complete all technical and legal procedures, uncover the full truth, and ensure accountability.
He emphasized that clarifying the circumstances of the incident is a national responsibility, both in respect for the victims and in response to the expectations of the Libyan people.
The meeting was attended by several senior Libyan officials, including representatives from the Interior and Defense ministries, the General Staff, and military intelligence, reflecting the importance of the discussions and the strategic nature of Libyan-Turkish relations.
