Benghazi Chief of Security, General Adel Abdel Aziz banned on Wednesday popular street markets, including Friday market amid fears of a COVID-19 outbreak.

This decision comes in light of the precautionary measures taken by the government to confront the COVID-19 virus.

The government had previously announced that people are at risk of contracting the virus in crowded places such as mosques, markets, cafes, and other public venues.
The governorate also banned hookah cafes and stressed that strict measures will be taken against those who violate these measures.

Libya has already taken several measures to contain the spread COVID-19. These include closing schools and universities, canceling sporting and cultural events and banning public gatherings.
