The National Centre for Disease Control’s (NCDC) branch in Sirte received the first shipment of medical supplies from the National Centre for Disease Control in Tripoli and the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Accord (GNA).

According to the sources of the centre’s branch administration, the head of the media committee to combat the Coronavirus pandemic, Sirte Muhammad Al-Emil, said that this shipment was the first since the emergence of Coronavirus in Sirte.

He explained that the shipment of medical supplies that arrived in Sirte contains laboratory supplies, operational materials for the PCR device, medical sterilizers, medical equipment, and medicines for facing the epidemic, in addition to other needs of the NCDC in Sirte.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Libya so far is 16,445, including 1,910 recoveries and 262 deaths, according to the NCDC.

A series of precautionary measures against COVID-19 has been taken by the Libyan authorities since the first case was announced in March, which includes closing the country’s borders, shutting down schools and mosques, banning public gatherings, and imposing a curfew.

China donated medical aid to Libya in June to help the country’s pandemic battle.
