On Wednesday, Fathi Bashagha, the Interior Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), participated in the Crisis Committee that was formed by the Presidential Council to monitor the government’s response to COVID-19 (commonly known as Coronavirus).

The committee met in Tripoli to discuss the risks for Libyans who were abroad, the needs of citizens as well as the latest political, military and economic developments in the country.

The committee was presided by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), the President of the High Council of State, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) and the Chairman of the Audit Bureau.

It is worth noting that Bashagha refused to undergo a medical examination after returning to Libya this week from France and Britain.

Despite the fact that Libya is yet to confirm any cases of COVID-19, the government has taken strict measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus inside the country. Schools, universities, cafes and restaurants have been closed and public prayers in mosques have been suspended for two weeks.
