The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has called on young Libyan women to participate in an upcoming online dialogue session focused on public affairs, governance, and national priorities. The event, scheduled for March 9, 2026, is part of ongoing efforts to support inclusive political engagement and strengthen women’s participation in shaping Libya’s future.
According to the mission, the session will address a range of key issues, including governance reform, economic challenges, security concerns, human rights, and national reconciliation. The initiative aims to provide a platform for young women from different backgrounds to exchange perspectives and contribute ideas within the broader framework of Libya’s structured national dialogue process.
The dialogue is being organized in cooperation with the Libyan Women’s Gathering and will take place via Zoom at 1:00 p.m. Participants are required to register in advance. UNSMIL emphasized that encouraging young women to take part in discussions on public policy is essential to ensuring that the political process reflects the aspirations of all segments of society.
The initiative builds on previous outreach efforts by the mission. In February, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNSMIL, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, held an online discussion open to Libyans to address questions related to governance and the structured dialogue roadmap. That session focused on building unified, accountable, and stable institutions capable of serving the entire country.
UNSMIL has consistently stressed that inclusive participation, particularly by women and youth, is critical to achieving sustainable peace and advancing the political process toward elections. The mission maintains that broader civic engagement will strengthen national ownership of reforms and enhance prospects for reconciliation.
