A high-level meeting was held in Benghazi to assess the latest developments surrounding the Russian tanker ARCTIC MET AGAZ, amid ongoing monitoring efforts by Libyan authorities.

Chief of Staff of the Libyan Naval Forces, Shuaib Youssef Al-Saber, chaired the meeting with the Emergency and Rapid Response Committee formed by the General Command. The session took place at the Naval Operations Division headquarters on Tuesday.

Officials reviewed the current measures and precautionary steps in place, while reaffirming the readiness of response plans aimed at protecting Libya’s coastline from any potential risks linked to the vessel.

Participants stressed the importance of strengthening coordination among relevant authorities and implementing all necessary actions to ensure maritime safety and safeguard coastal security.

The meeting comes as Libya continues to enhance its maritime monitoring capabilities, particularly in response to incidents involving foreign vessels in the Mediterranean. Authorities are prioritizing rapid response preparedness to prevent environmental or security threats that could impact the country’s shores.
