On Thursday, Libyan Minister of Health Saad Agoub called on citizens to stay at home as a curfew enters into effect in an attempt to prevent an outbreak of the Covid-19 virus in the country.

“Today marks the first day of the curfew imposed in Libya, based on the decision and recommendations of the Supreme Committee to combat the Coronavirus pademic and the recommendations of the Ministry of Health,” Agoub said.

The minister added that “the decision to prohibit roaming was based on scientific research and consultations with advisory committees and experts […] to protect you and prevent an outbreak of the virus”.

He also said, “The Ministry of Health is being completely transparent on informing our people and the public about developments regarding COVID-19. The interest of the country is the basis and guide for our work.”
